sherlockify: “I’d imagine the whole world was one big machine. Machines never come with any extra parts, you know. They always come with the exact amount they need. So I figured, if the entire world was one big machine, I couldn’t be an extra part. I had to be here for some reason.” HUGO. i didn’t realise it had been such a long time since i enjoyed a movie and the cinematic experience until we watched this - there is something so special about a movie which evidently delights so much in the process of film-making and story-telling. there is so much in this movie to unpack and so much beauty to purely and rawly marvel. the beauty of the intricacies of mechanics and engineering and the film as a paean to cinema, the pride in the production that scorcese and his team demonstrate, the perfect matching of cast to characters and the child actors who are impossible not to love. this movie alone is enough to remind you why dvds and streaming can’t always replace the cinema, how and why movies can be magical.
